Look Up and Praise

Praise the Lord! How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting! The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and call them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!

Psalm 147:1-5

In our galaxy alone, there are over one billion stars. When considering the other galaxies, the number of stars increases up to four times the amount. God counts each star and calls them all by names. There is no way that He has forgotten about you. God knows your most intricate parts. You are His masterpiece and most prized possession. You can feel secure in knowing that God attends to every detail of his creation and he knows all that belongs to him.  

God does not ignore your troubles. He knows when you are in over your head. He knows when you are tired, weak, frustrated, and on the brink of giving up. God is the one who can heal your brokenness. He is the one who rebuilds you after you have been torn down. He is calling you to come, to seek him first, regardless of how difficult it may seem. God is great, his power is absolute, his understanding is beyond comprehension.

Do not hold your head down. Look up and recognize where your help comes from. God brings out the stars, one after another, calling each by name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not one is missing. You are not missing from God’s sight. He knows you by name! The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. He gives power to the weak, and strength to the powerless. God is never too busy or too tired to help and listen to you. His strength is your source of strength. When you feel like you can’t take another step to go any further just call upon God. He will answer and renew your strength.

I love how the psalmist exhorts us to praise the Lord! Singing has such a unique way of bringing our hearts and minds together to focus completely and entirely on God. Singing praises pull us into the intimacy of God’s presence and rebuild our strength. How delightful and how fitting it is for God to dwell amid our praises. When feeling distant and alone open your mouth and begin to praise.
